Intake grille made of deep-drawn perforated plate (002)
This deep-drawn perforated plate is inserted into the leaf blower/suction unit. This prevents leaves or other elements from clogging the drive or damaging the motor.
Challenge
The commercially available, grid-like perforated plate is to be produced inexpensively as a series part. By means of industrial forming in the deep-drawing process, the perforated sheet grids can be produced accurately and cost-effectively even in medium quantities.
The difficulty lies in the stress on the material during the drawing process. Due to the thin design (base plate with 1mm thickness) and the close arrangement of the small holes, there is a risk of material cracks and undesirable, excessive distortion of the holes.
Solution
With the appropriate process parameters in the drawing process and an optimised drawing tool, it was possible to produce the parts in the desired quality. After deep drawing, the intake grilles are cut and treated with a 3D laser.
